History
Beechmont Country Club was proudly established in 1923 by a visionary group of seven men who recognized the pressing need for a new club to serve the growing Jewish population in the Cleveland area. These seven men became the charter members of Beechmont Country Club, officially incorporated on April 3, 1923.
Upon acquiring the current land from farmer Samuel Kornhauser, the club enlisted the expertise of the renowned golf course designer, Mr. Stanley Thompson, famously known as the 'Toronto Terror.' Thompson masterfully crafted a layout that takes advantage of the natural topography, featuring a distinctive challenge where 15 of your approach shots are hit uphill to the greens. This unique design ensures that Beechmont always plays longer than the scorecard suggests.
In June 1963, Beechmont made headlines on the national stage by hosting the Inaugural Cleveland Open, showcasing the largest purse in golf history at that time. Golf legends such as Nicklaus, Palmer, Snead, and Trevino competed for a piece of the impressive $110,000 purse. The Cleveland Open returned to Beechmont in 1971, where Bobby Mitchell set a course record by carding a 63—an achievement that remains unparalleled today.
In recent times, 2023 marked the centennial celebration of Beechmont Country Club, commemorating 100 years of membership, service and togetherness. We remain dedicated to providing our members and guests with an unforgettable experience that emphasizes the importance of family, friends, heritage, and community and we look forward to many more years together.
